Case study
Zodiac Group Australia Chlorinator
The opportunity Zodiac Group Australia initiated a challenging project with the objective of redesigning their saltwater chlorinator to reduce manufacturing costs and increase reliability. Product efficiency had to be maintained or improved and at the same time significant cost reductions had to be achieved for the project to be viable and internationally successful.
The solution Optimising the power transformer design was a critical consideration in order to meet challenging cost reduction targets. Torema worked closely with the R&D team at Zodiac and invested significant time to gain an intimate understanding of the project objectives and trade-offs. Detailed modelling was performed to optimise the transformer design, cost, heat transfer techniques, mounting systems, material selection, temperature management and control options. The final solution comprised an innovative combination of proven and reliable technologies and construction methods designed to integrate perfectly with the control system. The solution was successfully tested and implemented to deliver the required cost, performance and reliability benefits. In the transition to mass production, Torema's established offshore production facilities enabled efficient supply chains to be implemented and a scalable response to Zodiac's global requirements. |
“During the new product development phase, Torema proved invaluable with their technical support and rapid prototyping services. Thedesign challenge to develop atransformer that had greaterthan 90% power conversion efficiency was undertaken and delivered successfully, resulting in an order placed and a new platform defined for future product development. I can recommend Torema as an innovative, trustworthy and supportive design partner giving final component prices far better than prior long established Chinese vendors and can't wait to engage them on the next project. “
